WHAT IS THE 1K CHALLENGE?!

After the mission trip ended, we asked students to love and serve their communities back home… and we gave them $10,000 to do it! We split the money into 10 checks, gave it to 10 churches and gave the youth one big challenge: To make their mission more than a trip.To do the same thing back home they did on their YouthWorks trip.

And guess what… Teenagers from across the country served their neighbors, loved children, clothed the impoverished and supported those in need. And you can too!

 

OUR 2011 1K CHALLENGE GRANT RECIPIENTS ARE…

We’re in the process of figuring that out. Our application deadline was October 14, 2011, so we are busy reading application. Check back on November 11, by which time we’ll have our recipients posted, along with a summary of how they are serving their local communities.

 

WHAT STEPS WERE NEEDED TO APPLY?

1. Go on a YouthWorks mission trip.
2. Think of a way to serve your community back home.
3. Invite some fellow students onboard.
4. Make a plan.
5. Fill out an application and return it by October 14, 2011.

 

SELECTED MINISTRY INITIATIVES ARE…

  • Student-Led – While adults are present, their role is to support the leading role of students, who steer the project.
  • Well Planned – 1K Challenge recipients have done the front-end work of planning and organizing their initiative and clearly laid out that plan.
  • Meaningful – These ministries are purposeful, and they are making a difference  in their communities.
  • Relational – 1K Challenge groups emphasize people, going beyond good works and valuing good relationships.
  • Lasting – Relationships are not one-time events. These initiatives are designed to last.

Qualification
In addition to thoroughly filling out the 1K Challenge application by the posted deadline, qualifying applicants must include current high school or junior high students who have attended a YouthWorks trip.

YouthWorks Investment
YouthWorks will fund up to 10 awards of up to $1,000 toward the ministry project.

Share Your Story
Whether or not your application is selected for an award, YouthWorks wants to hear your story! If you do receive an award, you will be required to regularly report how the grant was used and the impact in your community.
