Glen Ellyn has become home to refugees from countries around the world. Faith Lutheran has helped to welcome this new community by providing free English tutoring (ESL) for adults. The youth group has supported this ministry by babysitting the kids whose parents come for tutoring. However, after seeing Kids Club on their YouthWorks trip, the youth decided they could better serve the refugee kids by providing a more structured environment for them.
So they started providing kids with homework and language help, social interaction, and time to play – which is important for kids whose homes might be stressful places. “God has been with us throughout our whole journey,” say teenagers leading the program. “We are glad to see him working through us.”
